Why Signs Can Be Dangerous

 "OU IT’S A SIGN”

As women of God, sometimes we find ourselves praying prayers like “Lord if you sent him, show me a sign” and “ God if he’s not the one then let him leave” If this sounds like you, I can assure you that you’re not alone! I know I’ve found myself doing this plenty of times based on my past experiences with Christ. And while this method of prayer can work, I don’t believe that it’s the wisest way to figure out if God is telling you that the person you’re talking to is “the one”.

You may ask WHY? We live in a world where there are many distractions and as women of God, we have to understand that we have an enemy; an adversary, someone who comes to steal, kill, and destroy. {John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly”}. We also have to understand that the enemy is prowling around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. {1 Peter 5:8} If we give this enemy room, an opportunity, an open door {foothold} in our lives - know that he will take his chance. Women of God we have to know that the devil is able to send and show us signs just as well.

He tries to imitate everything our Father in Heaven does so with that information we have to apply it to our lives. The Bible says {2 Thessalonians 2:9}The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders”. With this knowledge, we understand that the enemy has the power to send “false signs” Further {Matthew 24:24} states For there shall arise false christs and false prophets and shall show great signs and wonders, insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect”.  If false christs and prophets are able to show “signs” then this openly communicates to us that “signs can be sent from the enemy”.

With that said Women of God it’s very imperative that we

  1. Develop Good Judgment
  2. Develop Discernment
  3. Refer To the Word Of God (Bible)

The 3 of these take time, and not only time but time spent with Christ and getting to know him. Not having good judgment can cause us to make the wrong decisions and not being able to discern a person can lead us entertaining a relationship longer than were supposed to. Which in the end can harm us and without reference to the word of God we have no direction, so always check to see what the bible has to say before following the “sign” that you believe is from “God”.

If the enemy is seeking whom he may devour, how can you know if the “sign” is truly from God? I previously thought that because my

  1. Commonalities
  2. Similarities

An interest that was the same as an individual meant that it could be a “sign” or chance that the person is God sent. However I was wrong and very immature in my walk with Christ because I began to understand that the enemy knows our weakness, sometimes it’s no coincidence when you pray to God that you want your person to “understand” you in ways that others don’t, Or you want your person to have a certain “heart posture” and next thing you know you meet someone who’s doing the exact things you just prayed for. So it seems like it’s a sign from God when you just prayed a prayer and then the prayer shows up evident right?

This is why I believe it’s important that we refer to the bible because our judgment can get cloudy.

Questions To Consider

Women of God in these instances I want us to ask ourselves
  1. What does the bible say about him? (Reference)
  2. What does the spirit of the Lord say? (Good Judgment)
  3. What fruits does he carry? (Discernment)

People can exemplify Christ but still not be of Him. In Scripture {2 Timothy 1-5}But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.

The Bible said “Having the appearance of Godliness but denying its power, avoid such people” That’s HUGE! This is why we must apply scripture so that we are able to discern whether a person is truly abiding by him.

Checking Their Fruit

{Galatians 5:20-25} 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Always be sure that you check a person’s fruit, and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what their fruits actually look like. Is it bitter? Or is it Sweet? The Bible tells us that bad company corrupts good morals {1 Corinthians 15:33} so always be vigilant and careful as to who you decided to give your time to and always refer back to the Word of God before deciding that the “sign” is your confirmation.
